Wanted to get feedback this early lionel engine I added err upgraded sounds but what I'll like to do is paint the silver handrails flat black for a more prototype look but would that interfear with the signal as they are the antennas for tmcc thanks

Miguel, I'm not really sure to be honest with you. I don't know enough about their electronics to be able to answer your question. I'm thinking that if you use an airbrush to paint them it would put a thin enough coat of paint on them that might not interfere with the signals. Hopefully one of the others with more knowledge can answer your question.
Shouldn't have any effect. I weather my steamers and they get painted along with everything else. Those doing conversions often isolate the tender shell for the antenna which is also painted.

What upgraded sounds did you use?
I used sound files of the jlc y6b plus fatboy dule speakers sounds great wanted to go err sounds but no whistle near what the n&w would use
Hi Miguel... i also have one of these engines. I also was considering painting some blueing on the handrails... let us know what you end up doing with the handrails...
Hey bob I love the engine but the silver hand rails are so off I'll keep you posted on this hopefully we can get feedback from some one that can help . I have run the engine without the shell without reception problem but just want to make sure
You will be fine. Use your head, if you painted your radio would it still work?
You can try this. Available from Micromark. An expensive way to paint a couple of handrails but it's good for darkening up side rods and such.

Thanks guys for the input will look into it expensive but it will put me to ease lol

That's a messed up answer. He is using his head by asking the question!
What you paint it with could make a difference. Something non-metallic can cause RF attenuation in terms of signals able to be received.
For our particular TMCC case, it very well may not matter due to the frequencies and distances involved.
A better rationale would be that since sometimes a TMCC antenna is a wire that still has insulation on it, a non-conductive paint that is not thicker than wire insulation will most likely cause no issue.
Not all TMCC antennas are outside. Some are inside or actually using the body as the antenna. So, what does the radio signal have to do? Pass through a paint to get to the antenna.
Miguel,
I am curious about how your engine sounds. Being that the sounds on the JLC Y6b changed at a certain speed, is this still what happens on your engine?
Big Jim I sent you email with link to my youtube a class with jlc y6b sound file
Thank you Miguel. I'll check it out.

If the chuff count change is in the chip it would seem so. Would like to see the video.
Wasn't there a Y6b thread long ago, that those went from 2 chuffs to 4 in error? Should have gone from 8 to 4, or in Lionel's case 4 to 2.
Bobbyd I sent email
Very nice work, sounds great and yours smokes well.
Bobby added a stronger hear element to this engine makes a big difference
