Replacing drive belt. Can anybody help with how the belt is installed, with regard to the axle, wheels and drive pulley? Any pictures and detailed instructions would be appreciated. Greenburg doesn't show or tell.

Thank you Bob! I saw that, but I still can't tell how you attach it?
Bob, with your help and getting a look at the last part of the original instructions, I got it. Thank you
Hi, I know this is an old post but, hopefully someone can help me out. I am installing the belt correctly (I think), but it seems to be real tight and not turning freely. Does it need some kind of lube?
Thanks,
Bill
Is this that square shaped rubber band that likely has melted on 90% of the cars?
Yes, I believe so. That seems to be my problem--getting that melted stuff out of the groove of the pulley.
It should probably somewhat tight to make the car function properly. Exercising it might help some too. Thank you for everyone's replies!! David
Rubber bands are temporary, the rubber does stay long, it dries cracksand melts.
When Lionel designed and made these cars with the rubber bands, however clever this was as a rotary transformation device, Lionel never intended or conceived that these toys would last this long.
This is true of the rubber bands used as load hold downs, too.
Thank you so much guys! I got it working! Bill
I now have the delight of trying to put a new replacement belt on this car. I am well aware of the instruction sheet, but if you really read it, it leaves much to be desired. Is there anyone who has actually replaced the belt and can give a better step by step process to get this belt on the pulley?
thanks,
jeff
