Is it possible to take the on/off switch from a Lionel 3520 and use it in the Lionel 3620 rotating searchlight car? I don't know if you use the existing wires on the 3620 and wire them to the switch like the 3520 is wired. Thanks for any help.

Due to the availability of complete 3520 searchlight cars, I would just pick one up. However, if you are insistent, the 3520 and 3620 are the same car with the only difference being the presence of the switch. I believe you can install a 6520-25 switch assembly into the 3620.
Here is the wiring diagram:

Thanks. I bought a set that included the 3620 an my wife likes the idea of the on/off switch. Picked up a switch on ebay, but one of the wires on the 3620 was run as a ground to the body. So I wasn't sure if you hooked them both up to the contact spring. I figured the wire from the contact roller goes to the contact drum switch. What a great website for getting good answers. Thanks again!!
I am awaiting delivery of the washer for this car in the meantime however I do NOT sense any vibration when button is engaged. Should I be able to notice even a slight vibration or something WITHOUT - for now - the needed "finger" washer?
