I just purchased a 397 Lionel Coal Loader that needs a new belt (saw the thread here on how to replace that) and also will need the plastic coal deflector replaced as mine is torn and very bent. I see that it is riveted in - anyone replaced this? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks much.

Yes, they do make replacement deflectors and rivets. You can also get a larger

version than the original.  I would recommend the larger version since this accessory scatters a lot of coal.  Most parts dealers carry both sizes plus the rivets.

I must admit that I haven't bought one in several years.  There are several dealers

selling the original size Pt. # 397-50- Stanley Orr, George Tebolt, Brasseur & Trainz

to name a few.  I have also seen people make their own with some light plastic

and small screws in place of rivets.
