Has any one seen this model up close? What I want to know is about the tender lettering. Lionel's graphics show a small "SOUTHERN PACIFIC" on the tender, but I think it should be the same size as the cab forward (20" letters). If anybody has a pic of this or could confirm one way or the other it would be much appreciated. I have been tempted many times on this engine, but this always holds me back.

FYI... Nicholas Smith had this loco at their tent sale today for $900. Two units Mint in their sealed shipping cartons, so I couldn't see the lettering on the tender.

I had been talking to him and he sent me a pic of the one on display. But the tender lettering just is not right. There is a big gap between the Southern & Pacific on the tender. It just does not look right. And the letters seem a bit small. I have looked through all my books and studied my Church Daylight book I think this is a Lionel mess up. I know $900 is a good price and I was real tempted. I was thinking about a late 40's mail train. But the tender is going to have to be redone if I buy it.
From what I see in photos on Worth Point, Lionel got the tender lettering mostly correct on this model. The catalog imagery shows a smaller lettering profile than the final product. There is, however, too much space between “Southern” and “Pacific”.
