I read the story that was done on this latest issue of OGR. I've been thinking, could the electric motor be switched out easy to a large Pittman can mtr? Then the electronics could be switched, thus having cruise control, and all the other bells/whistles making a much better runner.............................Thanks in advance on this one.............................................Brandy!

Hi BRANDY,
Here is a thread that has been discussed this past week, Same type of engine and the switch.
Are you sure you're talking about the 6-18000?
I suspect you may be talking about something like the 6-18006 Reading T1.
I have two of the T1 4-8-4 locomotives with DC motors and MTH smoke units.
I don't think the 0-6-0 is a candidate for a large Pittman. A RS385 Mabuchi should work though. It should work fine for that smaller engine.

Sorry about that GUYZ. Got my numbers mixed up. I thought it was the Rock Island they wanted to know. My bad.
My bad folks, I should have said from the start this engine was the Pennsylvania 0-6-0 switcher, that was in this last issue of OGM. They told all about the 1939 model as well as the Lionel 6-18000.
I noticed when I had it out the other day, and looking at the seemly large AC Pullmore mtr it has now, that possibly one of the new Pittmans, that has been on many topics might just fit?, then change out all of the electronics to ERR hopefully getting a 4 chuff per rotation, as well as a good whistle, 5.0 sound, electro couplers frt/rear, and all the rest of the bells and whistles, + cruise control!........Sounds good anyway. Like Gunny says, there ain't know job as easy to do, as the one you think someone else can do for Ya!
I forgot to ask, any of you guys have some part numbers, and where these upgrade items can be purchased, for this little engine................Thanks Brandy!
Truthfully, I'd consider looking for a modern replacement that already has a DC motor. I suspect by the time you do all that, you can have a Legacy model!
Brandy,
I will post a video later on a pre war 0-6-0 that I upgraded using a AC Commander and RS 5.

There should be more room in the 18000 for an ERR upgrade than in that 201, a much smaller engine. Of course, mechanically they're totally different...no Pullmor in a 201.
Kinda interesting that a 201 was chosen for an upgrade. As is, the 201 had a ringing bell and Lionel's short lived Magic Electrol.
