Hi all,

I usually spend time on the S gauge page, but today a friend of mine has asked me if I knew any way to establish a value for a train set she has.

As stated in the title it is a 6-31945 set, with very little use.  I have checked flea bay, there is one sealed set advertised for $600.00, and no sets listed under sold or completed.

Can anyone help me with putting some value on this?  I have attached two photos of the actual set.

Thank you,

Aflyer

It’s just a run-of-the-mill Lionel LLC starter set that had been issued earlier with a different transformer. There isn’t a whole lot of collectibility with Lionel LLC starter sets in general, with some exceptions. So, in the end, what she has is simply a used starter set.

Factors that will tend to increase the depreciation of this $400 set includes the early CW-80 transformer, which had a wiring error that was corrected in later versions. It’s a throwaway, as is.

On the plus side, it has the first version of FasTrack with the blackened center rail. Some hunt for that track today.

Being a realist, I wouldn’t expect to get more than $200 for that set. If I was a buyer, I probably wouldn’t want to pay more than $100.
