Empire State Express Set (LEGACY Scale J3a Hudson #5426)

Despite the unfortunate timing of its debut, December 7, 1941, the New York Central’s Empire State Express went on to great fame of its own. Clad in stainless steel from locomotive to observation car, the gleaming train made quite the sight between Chicago and Buffalo. An additional two coach add-on set and a 21” StationSounds diner are sold seperately BUILT TO ORDER

 

Features Set Includes: Streamlined J3a Hudson Streamlined tender 21" Combine "Grover Cleveland" 21" Coach "Reuben E. Personally, I can't imagine Lionel producing passenger cars w/o seated passengers nowadays.  MTH's first ABS cars with detailed interiors had no passengers, but that was back in the late 1990's / early 2000's.  Now MTH produces cars with 10-12 people per car.  Not a lot, but it's better than nothing.  15+ years later and any importer producing cars with no passengers just seems like a bad short-cut IMHO.

Yeah, it's almost as embarrassing as producing passenger cars without LED lighting....

That is a good question, the sets will be Build to order and I would think the cars would be also. Hopefully Lionel will clarify this in the near future.
