I just received a sealed 6-84257 Santa Fe SD40 #5018 from an authorized Lionel Dealer.  When I opened the box there was one small screw pinned under the box lid.  After removing the engine carefully, I found three more screws.

Where do the four small screws go?

The engine also is missing two air hoses on the right front of the engine.  The back of the engine has all the air hoses.

The front coupler lift bar was pinned between the truck and the frame.  The shipping carton is different from any Lionel engine carton, there is no "Open this end" markings. It is similar, but with extra cardboard packing to secure the orange box.

Any idea on the small screws?  The engine appears new and looks great.  I have not run it yet until I find out about the screws.  They are not body screws because the body screws are in place.  I did have to tighten the electro couplers that were hanging loose on the rear (1/2 turn), and a quarter turn on the front.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

There are two holes in the front of the engine for the air hoses that are missing.

There are holes in the chassis floor that appear to serve no purpose.  I can't imagine the screws are long enough to fasten to anything on the inside of the chassis.  The couplers line up higher than my 21" passenger car couplers.  There is no sag problem.  There is no kinematic cover plate as are on the passenger cars.  Should there be a cover plate to  hold the couplers up?

Thanks for your input.

Sincerely, John Rowlen
