Years ago I ordered some 6211-55 canisters from the Lionel parts department. They sent me unpainted yellow plastic atomic waste canisters that are identical to the ones that were used on the postwar Lionel 6805 Atomic Energy car. No markings or inserts, just plain unpainted yellow plastic.

6211 seems to be a gondola car. I found a couple on EBay, but they had the typical round cylindrical canisters.
Does anybody know what car or set they came from?
I don't remember how long I've had them, it's been a long time.

There were about three production runs of the 6-6211 C&O Gondola between 1984-1986.

The ones that turn-up in separate sale boxes are typically the version with overstamping made for the Lionel Operating Train Society (LOTS). That version had two blue canisters and a coal bag.

But usually the 6211 was found packed loose in the 6-1402 Chessie System Set of 1984-1985. That version always had the yellow radioactive waste canisters.

There's also a scarce version of the boxed 6211 that predates the LOTS version, and this, too, has the yellow radioactive waste canisters.

Years later I paid too much for the red lens inserts that go inside the AEC canisters.  It did not occur to me that they would not have the terminal / power clips. To the best of my knowledge, the clips were not available then, so I didn't use them.

Fast forward to today.

The clips are readily available, as are the other components, so I was thinking about putting the AEC canisters together. I am starting to think doing so would be spending good money after bad.
