Remove the snap ring at the bottom and pull the armature out. Remove, clean, and relubricate the ball thrust bearings and 4 hardened washers. Soak the oilite bearings with light synthetic oil. Clean and smooth the commutator including cleaning out the slots. Make sure the brushes and brush springs are in good condition. Clean the brush tubes. Reassemble and it should run well unless there is an electrical problem with the armature or field coils. When test running the motor make sure that the armature and field are connected in series.
