I obtained one for little money, good shell, good mechanics, brushes and armature were in good shape, gears were a bit dry so all areas received some lubrications as needed. The  interior certainly Not like my other switchers 623 624 6250 etc are really basic by comparison. So I read in Tandem Associates that this model was designed to run well on tighter radius of 027 gauge track but they will run equally well on O gauge track.
my layout, all 0 gauge tubular Lionel and super K line 031 curves and 022 switches are perfect for traditional postwar.
So testing her out I found that it doesn't like the 031 and 022, derails. No other of my short chassis switchers do this. Oh well, so I looked at it again and it seems that the power truck does not have enough swing or flexibility, or maybe it’s not swinging freely. Seems like it’s narrow. Question: is there possibly a nylon washer that may solve this issue? I didn’t see one. Hmmm. I am under the assumption that the upper truck is rubbing on the chassis. Maybe a center spring in this area is missing? What I know is missing right now is my (loaned out )Greenberg Repair and Operating Manual for Lionel trains 1945-1969. I’ve not had the pleasure of owning and maintaining the simpler late postwar switchers. Any help, advice appreciated.
thank you.

Hi there Rich Weimann! Thx for answering. I have been lucky with most postwar projects this one is kind of a stumper! As there is only one page in the handbook for this model(really?) I  will resort to some wealth in youtube  possibly.  I have checked my trackage for irregularities and will continue to look but I think the primary issue is in the power truck vs frame. More on that when I completely take this one apart for that total investigation! lol.

@Leroof Greenberg’s only has a single page for these 44 Ton switchers. It shows the oil and lubrication point for the trucks and motor. Description of the E unit operation and magna traction...

Refer to the pages for the 600 series switchers in Greenberg for more detailed service info. They are twins mechanically & electrically.

coincidently, I just picked up my Greenbergs book at a friends house.
ADCX Rob. Ahh 600 series in Greenberg repair. There’s a thrust collar (600-129) I don’t see is that a nylon washer?  and I believe the bearing ball (600-110) is missing. Hmmm maybe that’s it!
thx Rob.

Question possibly, Any one have extra ones you might want to share and send? Im good for it.

Under my scrutiny I found some of my 022s have some rail issues. This makes things a bit jumpy or shall I say exciting! lol. Also as some of my 031s are banked, going into a reverse curve with loco missing parts makes for some interesting happenstance! Running the loco very slowly revealed some of these issues.
so far the detective work seems to develop a path of proposed least resistance!
