How do you identify a genuine 6464-300 Rutland green strip car and 6464-275 State of Maine car with the red door ? You can easly buy doors and create these car variations,how do i tell if i'm buying the real thing ?

Maybe David Doyle's standard catalog of lionel trains, or a greenberg book can help.
There are actually many ways to tell, like number of rivet rows, color of original plastic, smooth or ribbed inside the roof, what kind of trucks, painted and unpainted doors or body,and so on. Ge tthe books.
