Lionel 682 steam engine rod arm pin

Hi guys, I was wondering if someone could tell me how to get this pin out that has busted off? I have a new one to replace it.

Also I just picked this up and haven't put it on the track yet, is there anything you all would suggest I do before trying to run it?

Remove the shell/boiler and you should be able to access the rod. While the shell is off go ahead and lube and grease before you run it.
