Lionel 6828 crane versions and parts

I am trying to rehabilitate my old 6828 P&H crane. I know it was very common for the hinge attaching the front of the cab and base of the boom to be broken (as is mine). Many of them shown on eBay are like this. Mine is one of the originals. But I also see there are parts for later versions, such as 6828-4. Are the later cab parts compatible with my early version? If I can buy a later "cab only", I could probably restore mine mostly, although it's not to create value, only to be able to properly static display it on the layout.

I believe the 2 versions refer to light, dark yellow plastic.
