I have no idea, with the stripe, that's clearly a polarized cap and AC should smoke it in fairly quick order. It's really hard to know what you actually had before it was all disconnected.
Maybe they had a diode hid in under that heat shrink. But AC on a polarized cap made me think of this beauty I found one day 😜

I got it figured out with the great help of some very knowledgeable people here in this forum. It really wasn't as difficult as I was thinking it was. I can put the loco and tender on track and power up and have all the sounds and smoke there is for this engine while pulling it by hand. Now all I need is my motor from Timko. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice on this issue.

Here is the finished product. I love the cruise keeping the same speed regardless of incline or decline. Thanks again for all the help on figuring out the smoke unit connections.
Don't mean to be picky, but it doesn't look like a lot of smoke, but maybe that's just the video.
Yeah,it depends on how the light strikes it. If there is something in the background that is dark you can see the smoke very good.
