Try AUX1 / VOL+ a few times and see if that brings back the sounds.
Here is what will help. Push the whistle one time followed by pushing number 1 on the keypad to restore your sounds. The sounds are restored this way and the way GRJ pointed out. Remember, only one push of the whistle then press number 1 on the keypad until you get the desired sounds.
Ok, will try what you suggested. I have lionel legacy control station so number one would be the top left key, correct?
And btw Marty, thanks for your service to our USA. I appreciate what you did for my generation.
Thank you. Good luck with the engine.
THANK YOU! That did the trick.
I also have that engine and have nothing but great things to say about it. I get many engines in with the same complaint you had. The fix takes about 2 seconds.
Hello again. Back to running my trains after a 4 month hiatus. So back in September I had an issue with my 700 E Hudson and the Legacy Railsounds. that you advised on how to fix which I did and it now runs fine. I also have a UP 844 FEF (not Vision Line) Legacy equipped. I put it on the tracks after 4 months and noticed the same issue that had happened with the Hudson. So I changed the battery on the tender, reset the Engine, reloaded the info on the control and no sounds save for bell and horn. No chuff, no idle sounds, no cab/control tower sounds. When I take the tender away from Loco, put it on another track w/o Legacy but with rail signal, I get idle sounds but no bell or whistle sound. I did everything possible including hitting Aux 1and number 1 on legacy control handle. Nothing. Not sure how to proceed. I did notice that the tether on the Locomotive was bent and thought that that might be an issue in communicating with the tender. I adjusted it so that they lined up but still nothing. Any suggestions?

the 6 dash number
I'm sorry, I don't follow. Would that be the smoke button on the Legacy command control? Do I hit AUX1 then the number 6?
I tried hitting Aux1 then number 6 and still the same.
He’s asking for the Lionel item/stock number for your FEF, 6-xxxxx.

THANKS MIKE
first the battery has nothing to do with your issue.
did you follow the attached reset codes?
Bigdodge...
Thanks for including the attachment. I did try the series of instructions in the loco manual that your attachment has. The only thing is is that the manual does not include the codes or at least I didn’t see the codes listed in any other part of the manual. So when I go down to the Cape again next weekend I’m going to try the whole thing over again and hopefully that will work. Since you said that the issue has nothing to do with the battery what do you think it could possibly be? Thanks again for your help I appreciate it.
all the battery does in most Lionel engines is keep the sound alive if there is a short power loss.
I believe an electrical component has died.
You have the first Legacy FEF with modular boards. In modular legacy, only two AUX codes exist. Number 1 for steam and number 2 for diesel. After you enter your engines number and press set, then press the engine number again, then AUX-1 then number 1. Go pack to run with your run/program switch. If you get no whistle doing this, open the engine and reseat the R4LC board. If you still have an issue, press the rear coupler and let us know if it fires. If it does you have your IR communication between the engine and tender. If you have that, do what I told you on your other engine.
If you are still in an issue, open the tender and pull and reseat your Railsounds power board and Railsounds audio board. See what you have then.
Your Hudson has the RCMC board system and your FEF has earlier modular boards.
Hello guys, thanks again for the feedback. I have tried what you suggested except opening the loco which me, having two left hands, would destroy it. No luck. Only whistle and horn. Nothing else. Marty, are you able to repair issues like this?
