Lionel #80 Semaphore, wiring...

I have just acquired some #80 semaphores, all of which are missing their pigtail wires.

Has anyone "upgraded" their #80 with binding-posts, like the later #82 units ?

Were the wires originally different colors?

(Sample picture from the interweb, not my particular #80.)
