On the 3 pin connector which pins are negative and which pin is hot.

If you fallow the trace on the top board, I believe the 2 outside pins are connected together so either outside can be used for ground. The center is hot.
That's correct. The center is hot and the two outer pins are connected and are ground.
Thanks a million guys.
Ron, swap those pins. The pins on the outside are the hot lead, the center pin goes up to the smoke resistor and then to the screws on the smoke unit case. Obviously, the center pin is ground. Look closely and you'll see that the outside pins also feed the diode that is the power to the fan, it returns to frame ground (center pin).
Thanks, since I’m wiring it to an ERR Cruise commander this verification saved me.
You'd have learned quickly about how to replace smoke triacs if you wired it the other way.

I was going by memory, too. Should have looked at a board also. My first words were fallow the trace.
It’s truly amazing. Last night I had all the wires ready per the original responses. It was late so instead of soldering and applying power I decided to stop for the night and finish up the next day. Maybe I better go out and get a lottery ticket. Anyway I do thank all of you for helping.
Buy me a ticket too Rod.
