Eric,
I respectfully request that you ramp up your video releases to at least twice a week. It's all I watch on television anymore! But seriously, thanks for your hard work. They're great.
PS- more tinplate!
1st off, great review once again.
I too bought some of the Lionel Amtrak pass cars. I only got a 2 car set and the sound car though. I mainly run 2 rail and I am considering converting them in the future. I was just dabbling to check out the quality and the attempt. I bought the MTH 2 rail version (of the engine) and the paint scheme I chose got delivered with the wrong blue used (phase IV). It does match one of the heritage colors though?
As far as this engine, IMO the engine is best run as a set with the cabbage. I feel although the cabbage is fairly expensive for a non-powered unit, it does complete the train and takes advantage of some great engineering once again from Lionel. I know these had some bad reviews, but once again the concept was spot on. I looked closely at getting a pair (set) and also always the Acela sets.
So to close, although you spend a ton on trains Eric, do yourself some justice and get the matching cabbage unit.
For some reason, this train looked the best going fast at around 23 min into the video.
I usually prefer to run the trains slower for videos.

Yeah, I prefer them to go slow but I try to do a bit of both for the videos. Thanks.

Ha, thanks. If trains were my full time job, maybe. My goal is to put out one video per week, but that doesn't always work out because some videos take a while to shoot, plus my non-train life eats up time as well.

Eric, looks like you got one of the working ones.
Eric:
Great video and thanks for posting!
These engines were a challenge when they first arrived, but now I run mine regularly and enjoy having the cabbage unit at the end and am still impressed with the sounds, etc. switching over to the cabbage when it is in the lead.
Great video Eric. Did you encounter a malfunction due to the heat dislodging the wire harness above the flywheel as was reported on this forum last year?

So far so good.
