Good morning all,

I'm excited to say that the Android version of the LionChief APP is now available in the Google Play Store. Just search for "Lionel LionChief"

The APP is virtually the same as the iOS version with one exception. In the Engine Select Menu, there is an eyeglass button. This is to manually search for available locomotives. Android devices cannot auto detect available devices on-the-fly like Apple devices can using Bluetooth. So this allows the user to manually search for broadcasting engines.

One last note/request: This APP is compatible with over 7,400 Android devices in total. There is a possibility that there will be functionality issues on some devices as we cannot test that many devices. Please let me know directly if you experience any problems with the APP and we'll get any bugs/fixes resolved in the next update of the APP. Being the first release, there are bound to be a couple of skeletons in the closet!

Thanks and happy train running!

The Lionel LionChief App lets you control Lionel LionChief and LionChief Plus BLE locomotives from your Android device. Select between multiple available locomotives via icons matching the appearance of each unique engine. Once selected, the app provides all the features of the Lionel LionChief hardware remote control and adds additional features including individual volume controls, pitch customization of bell and whistle, remote smoke on/off, speed limit, momentum and more.

Logged into the Google Play App store on my android tablet and searched for Lionel LionChief and no such app showed up to download? What am I doing wrong? I need help, please. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong?

Is this app only meant for certain android versions?

What device do you have?

Okay, I see the problem. My tablet unfortunately isn't compatible with the Lionel LionChief app since the LionChief app is only compatible with Android 4.4  and higher versions while the highest Android version available from Acer for my tablet is 4.1. DRATS!!! BUMMER!!!

(Wish Lionel would have made it available for lower Android versions like MTH has done for their Wi-Fi DCS app.)

I have a Dragon Touch x8 with android 6.0 and can not download app.

Since our engines run on BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy), the device needs to have BLE compatibility. This is included with any device that has Bluetooth 4.0 or higher. This has been the standard since 2011.

The Dragon Touch x80 has Bluetooth 2.0

Being in IT and also being 28 years old, I feel silly for asking and stating such a post. However, model railroading was always all about the transformers! I just got my very first ZW transformer after 20 years of wanting one! I love the old school style of using basic electric knowledge to get my trains powered and operated.

I have read all about the new stuff and constantly bug the local train shop for their input on the new idea of app controlling, however, for the ones who love the old school transformers as much as I do, how much better does this new technology make our experience of model railroading?

I only have the 5 star general at this point. First, i dont know who is having more fun, me or the grandkids!  The iphone version works perfectly. You can set throtle limits to reduce top speed. I am using an mth transformer, not the wall wart, to reduce the jolting i reduce the level of power on the transformer.  I enjoy walking around the layout with the phone controlling the train.

The android does not work well, too much of a lag.

I am using an old iphone,  just the thought of dropping a new phone on a cement floor spooks me.

Hello all,

I just released the first update to the APP. Look for update 1.1.10

Fixes the throttle response issue as well as a couple of other bugs.

Please let me know if you experience issues. Development on this APP is on-going.

Thanks!

Hi Dave:

1.  Where is the version number located?

2. Will Apple send this update to all at the same time?

3. What did you fix? (other bugs)

4. I have one Bluetooth on my layout, see photo below Item# 6-84253.

1 Bluetooth Pere M

All is well with my operations of this new App, no issues to report at this time.

This is only for the Android version. There's no update yet to the iOS version. That will probably be later this month to put in the artwork for the new products.

You can visit this link to see more about the new update: https://play.google.com/store/....lionchief&hl=en

It fixes the throttle response issue, some bluetooth connectivity issues, and a few other minor bugs.

Hi Dave,

Its a massive improvement! I have the 5 Star General and have been using an I Phone, I added the updated app to my Samsung Galaxy S-7 and it works very well, to the point that I can't really tell if there is much difference between the two systems.  I posted on another thread, with the advice from a few other posters, how to fine tune the starting and stopping of The General using the momentum feature and reducing the power level on my transformer.  You can see how it operates below:

This is a screen shot of the tools,  The Momentum helps adjust the engine's performance.  20171229_083737

Lastly, on another thread, their is a description of how to remove the grey paint that had been applied to the three gold bands (basically, you gently scrap the paint off using a small screw driver).20171122_135508

the General pulls a ton!  I added the three Green passenger cars from the the new Green Alco FA set, and it had no problem pulling its three regular cars plus two Sheriff and outlaw cars and the three 2400 series passenger cars.

Dave, if I have the original version of this app on my Galaxy Tab A running android 7.1.1 Nougat. Will this original version of the app automatically update itself to this newest version when I open the app on my tablet or do I have to go to the app store and manually install the new version?
