You are talking about the 6-84373 Announcement Track  (http://www.lionel.com/products...ement-track-6-84373/)?

The manual (https://www.lionelsupport.com/...nnouncementTrack.pdf) states that it is for any Trolley or other bump-n-go motorized units.

Being that the entire section is only 15" long, I suspect the isolated component is much too short for any locomotive. I also wonder if the electronics can support the current draw of a more demanding locomotive. Surprisingly, the manual is rather sparse on the operating mechanics and doesn't touch on the sections inability or ability to support running a standard sized locomotive through it and if it could control one. Perhaps tagging @Dave Olson may induce him chime in and let us know... 

The track was designed only to work with bump-n-go trolleys. It would work with conventional engines, but when power is restored it would cycle the E-Unit.

One thing to note is that if all 3 channels are cleared (no recordings on them) the track will not stop whatever is crossing over it. It'll just pass it through like a regular piece of track.

One could get around the e-unit cycling by locking it in the forward direction.

The total piece is 15" long - I still wonder how long the "isolated section" is? I imagine it would be on the short side and therefore limit its effectiveness on a number of locomotives. How neat it would have been to be able to make sizing customizeable with fastrack block ends and/or accessory activation pieces...

Thanks for your info....I will play with it today and see what happens.  I do wish it could have been shorter than the 15 inches.  But love that Lionel is trying to come up with some new stuff..Doug

We originally designed it as a 10" section, but trolleys going at higher speeds would just coast right through the section without stopping. At 15", it reliably stops the trolleys.

The section of rail where power cuts while the announcement plays is 10" long. Too short for more regular sized engines.

Just purchased the Polar Express trolly. It appears the trolly almost de-rails when entering the announcement track section. Running a regular (non-motor) car, the announcement works and the track feels smooth. Not sure what is causing this. Removing the AT, the trolly runs good to the end an reverses as it should be. Any coments would be appreciated.  Thanks
