Would someone tell me where the black wire is supposed to be connected? The end by the motor is loose
Thank you!

I'm pretty sure it goes to the solder lug on the motor field coil.
No, the other one. The one that is not grounded to the frame,
Yes, that should be it.
Thank you so much!
If only all the posts were this entertaining.
it looks to me like it should be the hot wire going to the headlamp bulb. The engine wires from the reversing unit are all there. It could possibly be the center rail collector wire to the reverse unit.
Where does it start or where is the other end connected?
It looks to be the wire from the center roller to the really bad solder on the e-unit. I meter it out tonight. Thanks

I think the key here is where does the wire come from.
The two yellow wires are from bottom 2 finger contact & the left most contact of the 4 finger contact. The black wire should be from the E unit and has to go to the field coil solder tab between the brush contacts (the two yellow wires.
Sorry. I couldn't get to my meter last night. I bought a color changing LED candle at the dollar store. I hope to use the color changing LED in place of the red bulb on top and the flickering candle to light the radar screen. Two LEDs for the headlights and I'm set! (yes I know I still need 3vdc somehow).
The video doesn't do it justice.
The engine should get a repaint. Has anyone done a creative repaint on one of these engines?
spwills posted:Yes, that should be it.
You were correct sir! Soldered and running well. Thanks so much. I used to stare at this engine in the window of Madison Hardware in NYC but my Dad couldn't afford it. Thanks again.
These are a fun set. I have the US Army 99 TMCC model with the matching sound car. After a little tuning, it is pretty reliable firing it's missiles.
