I got in under the wire with an order because the ditch lights are included (so Lionel better deliver) after seeing photos of 949 in a museum. Did I mention LIONEL BETTER DELIVER what they say will be included?

Interesting that there is no B Unit, wonder why. The UP pretty much always operated the units as an A-B-A consist.

Also, will the models actually have those "UP specific" snow-shields on the top of the twin cooling systems fans?

Lionel didn't offer a b unit, so mr muffin can't offer 1, looks like the snow shields made it in the artwork

I wondered about that too but I don't think Lionel has recently made any UP E8 B units. MTH made them in scale and semi-scale sizes and they were not very far different (color-wise) from the Lionel units - but you can't find them anywhere. I don't think 3rd Rail made any either.

I'm not holding my breath on the snow shields. The last couple of batches of Lionel UP E8s have had the same detail parts as other railroads.

Just to clarify what Hancock52 posted above;

The last UP E Unit (cataloged E9) did have the snow shields as did the Santa Fe unit. Weather they make Mr. Muffins production is a wait and see, but they are in the art work, where the Amtrak art work does not show the snow shields.

While the E8's offered may have looked the same or similar to a casual observer, the fact is there were some road specific details offered. Front light(s), number boards, horn, bell, grab irons, train antenna and the before mentioned snow shield. This is easily seen on google searches if you need to see for yourself.

Are these enough road specific details for you? that is a question each buyer will need to decide for themselves.

But for the new members who may be looking at these as a purchase, they were not all "made with the same detail parts other railroads".

For your sake I hope Steve does.

It's been my impression that lately if you see something that you really want, pre-order it.  Especially custom runs.  I know there are a few people who say they will not buy an item until they see it.  But, it appears that once an item gets to the dealers they are sold out quite quickly.

I had pre-ordered all 7 cars of the last MTH Premier 64' Woodsided Passenger Cars in PRR from a dealer.  I started to see that they were being delivered to dealers and selling out quickly.  After a couple of weeks I nervously contacted the dealer I pre-ordered them from.  After several emails I received a response that he would not be able to get them.  I then scrambled and had to order the 3 parts of the set from several different dealers.  Let's just say I was a little steamed about that and will not be ordering from that dealer again.

There are 2 pieces that were from 2015 that I cannot find anywhere.  Considering these are MTH pieces, I doubt they will ever be made again.

An Amtrak E9B to me looks boring.  All platinum mist on the with just a road number and Amtrak in blue, one on each side. Maybe best those were not built.   And Lionel used "Lionel Silver" on the Amtrak E9A's?  Is that "close enough"?

Great pieces to have. I also bought the Super Bass B unit. I was a little disappointed that the diaphragms on the Super Bass B unit (black) didn’t match the color of the A units (grey).

Are there grey ones somewhere in parts?

Not in mine - but I did not notice this until it was pointed out!

I think it would not be a big deal to repaint the diaphragms on the Muffin custom run B unit and it is not a deal breaker for me.

The B unit appears to be an E7 based on the square window on the end.  E8/9s had porthole windows.
