If you are going to be in New York City during the Holiday Season, Macy's Herald Square has a Toy Arcade set up opposite Santa Land, with a small, round, Lionel train display that operates 4 sets on different levels. They also stock about 4 electric sets, and 2 battery sets.  When we were there Saturday there was always a group in front of it watching the trains go round. From what we heard there is also a display layout within the Santa Land complex itself.  It does not matter if you like Macy's, or not, this is the type of exposure that our hobby needs to stay in the minds of the public.

Curious... Is that a new Lionel Macy's boxcar (red w/Santaland graphic and green roof) this year?  Or was that from a prior year.  I recall Lionel producing a special annual Macy's boxcar for 2006, 2007, and 2008 around Christmastime, but the boxcar in your top 2 photos doesn't look familiar to me.  Looks nice!

These boxcars were quite the hot item back then -- especially when they first came out.  Folks were calling up Macy's stores all over the country to grab one (or two).  The first two had terrific graphics, but the third (2008?) was rather bland as I recall.  And at that point, the phase wore off.

I should have mentioned that the display cases you see with the Macy's Boxcar are part of a historical display on the stores history. These display cases are on the 9th floor, next to the Christmas decorations.

There are a few other Macy's around the country that have the special Toy Arcade set up, Union Square, State Street Chicago, and Center City Philly among them, but I don't know if they have the trains operating like Herald Square has.
