Does anyone have the current part # for the barrel car figure, and is he supposed to have 1 arm or 2 arms extended?
Thanks.

Thanks, Larry, the link you sent shows the figure with both arms extended. Like the old 3464 operating boxcar, is this correct?
Looks like #600-9290-012.
For 2 arms extended. Use 3562-62 for 1 arm extended.
Can you tell me what barrel car came originally with both arms extended?
I have no idea - I thought that figure was from the milk cars.
Thanks, Rob,
but that guy has only 1 arm extended.
For the original Lionel barrel car
3562-1 black car ( 1954 ) both arms extended
3562-25 gray car (1954 1955) both arms extended
3562-50 yellow car ( 1955-1956 ) one arm extended
3562-75 orange car ( 1957 1958 ) one arm extended
Hope this is helpful
Enjoy
Frank
P.S. The Lionel service manual (1945-1969) for this car has the number for the figure as 3562-62 the illustration shows a one arm extended figure. It is the only figure mentioned and shown.
Thanks, LV. do you know about the MPC 9290 issue? Lionel shows this now with 2 arms extended and I thought it only had 1 arm extended.

FWIW, I've seen all those postwar variations with figures either way. And the figures were not reproductions either.
John,
Yes you are correct I have also seen the figures both ways. I thought of that after I posted. Lionel would of course use up whatever figures they had for that day, week or perhaps the whole run.
Chuck
Sorry I do not have any detail information on the MPC era cars

Chuck:
I just checked my MPC 9290. I still have it in the original box, liner, and the barrels and man are still in the original plastic bag.
The man is blue with painted face and hands and he has only one arm extended.

Erie, not Eerie
It may not lend much to the discussion but I always liked the man with both arms extended over the single-arm for the barrel cars.
FWIW, the postwar part# for the barrel car figure (at least what is listed in the original service manual) is 3562-62. I believe this is the one that has both arms extended. Just like the other figure with one arm extended, both have been used in other applications such as operating door boxcars & some of the space & military items.
