Hey everyone! So odd question... anyone know why Lionel didn’t paint the tender axel tips white on the new excursion version? It seems every photo of 4014 I can find, the tender axel tips are white and sometimes the rear wheel axels on the locomotive are also white. Just curious... 575F118E-8C61-4CB9-BA36-75C23FA8C34CC73F2DF0-2012-4D17-BC19-881D781140FA

For what it's worth, that is NOT "white" paint. The UP began painting the journal covers Bright Aluminum, sometime in the early 1950s (some folks refer to it as 'silver paint'). The thought was to show potential lubrication fluid leaks, which would quickly & easily show on the Bright Aluminum paint. Also, the center hub of the engine truck wheels were also painted Bright Aluminum, in oder to match. All the UP 4-8-4s, 4-6-6-4s, and 4-8-8-4s received such treatment.

Another note, the numbering and lettering on UP steam locomotives is also NOT "white"!

Thanks for the info! It’s really strange then why it doesn’t have it but the first run edition does considering, as you pointed out, the silver wasn’t  applied until almost 10 years after it was built.
