Caboose kitbash projects

I'm not hot on the shorty or two cupolas...

But two  three suggestions:

1) can you bring the trucks in closer together and lower them?

2) Add a maintenance/ tool  box below the frame

3) can you splice it 3 places and make a drovers caboose out of it?

How about taking the top one where the roof end was cut off and making a plow for that end seeing the N.E. has been getting all this snow and all 

You mean make a Russell Plow out of it... hmmm...

I did a cupola-less splice in N scale many moons ago. The prototype is CNSM caboose 1002.

In a show somewhere, I saw a version somebody had done of that double cupola

one shown above.  I am all for drover's or side door combine cabooses, pictured above,

and can't say I have seen any kitbashed out of Lionel cabooses (but would bet there are some out there),  That green one above looks like an old HO kit model that used

to be available...was that picture photoshopped?  That MoPac one looks like one from

maybe the same old HO kitbuilder, also photoshopped?

If you are considering going the fantasy route, why not double up vertically instead of horizontally?  A bi-level caboose to go with bi-level passenger cars.

Or perhaps if the two shells do not line up well as you suggested, you might consider a transfer caboose.

Thank You all for the different ideas. I haven't made a final decision yet. I'm glad I didn't start cutting before considering more possibilities. 

I previously patched up a Marx caboose that had one broken corner, by salvaging the one good corner off an otherwise identical caboose which had THREE broken corners! Now I'm thinking of cutting the roof off the donor caboose, square the roof ends and shorten the body, to make use of an otherwise junk item. 

You could do the shorty with a single 6-wheel passenger truck. It would go well with the RMT "Beep" and other short-wheelbase mini-diesels. 

 I built this doodlebug from Lionel cabooses, Marx parts and styrene bits.

 Never did finish it.

That's unique and creative !  I have thought about kitbashing some kind of boxcab loco with the cabooses, but it would be a more involved project. Thanks for the photo !
