I was looking at the new Lionel Signature Catalog and saw that they are producing F units and a set of cars decorated as the California Zephyr.  While the cars are clearly not true to the prototype, I had a question about the D&RGW F-3s.  Is the paint scheme shown correct?  I know that the D&RGW did not use F-3s until later (they used Alcos originally) but was wondering if they used this paint style on that famous train.

Paint scheme is correct but details aren't.  Lionel needs to learn that not all F3's had "chicken wire" between the portholes, etc.  They made the same mistake with the Santa Fe freight F3's they produced recently.  The sad thing is Lionel has all the tooling needed to do these things correctly, and they don't.
