I saw a recent post where somebody thought that ATSF Santa Fe did not have 8-door 86' box cars because the new Lionel catalog did not have them as one of the paint schemes offered.

The Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe did have a few 8-door box cars. Lionel just released the Santa Fe 86' Hi-Cube box cars.

The LIONEL catalog can not be all Santa Fe all the time.

There has to be a balance of road names across the United States and Canada.

I like Santa Fe Super Shock Control box cars, but it is unlikely that the people at Lionel would offer all variations each year.

Santa Fe sells...period. In  every catalog or not. Whether everyone likes SF or not, it sells. In every scale, all the time, and most of the time, it SELLS OUT!

I guarantee you, with this new BTO system, a lot of these funky road names Lionel put in this new catalog will NOT be made due to lack of orders. The only thing in the new catalog with Santa Fe on it, is a Lion Chief engine.... now that is a marketing mistake. If you want to sell something in the toy train or model railroading world, sell a Santa Fe.

Glad I wasn't the only guy to think this.  I want more AT&SF steamers (Actually any would be nice as I don't even have one yet.)  but have had to pick SP as Lionel has only made big steam in SF where I need O36 locomotives.  But in the meantime, I'm picking up the SF rolling stock as I have the money and come across it.

That's what I'm doing to update my car for the 90s. Sanding off the "Auto Parts" lettering has been unusually tedious on this one, though.

Lionel's approach to these is a little curious. They complement the auto racks, many of which are in post-1993 paint jobs, yet the box cars are made primarily in 1960s era schemes (probably because they are though more colorful).

RM

man Microscale don't have much left at all for O Scale.

I've used LBR Enterprises (forum sponsor) to make me some custom Santa Fe decals. They did a great job, I highly recommend using them.

being damaged in shipping is not Lionel's fault. The cars are pretty accurate, and the real ones are pretty flimsy too. I tipped a couple real ones over once

Ryan at LIONEL put the yellowbonnet Santa Fe F7 diesel-electric locomotives in the catalog.

There were several people making the comments on Facebook and YouTube that the Warbonnet scheme needed to be made at the same time.

Some these men have to know that most locomotives produced by LIONEL will only be made once every 10 years.
