My new Lionel Legacy C&O Allegheny is causing a short on Z-4000.  Get same result on two different layouts (main layout and smaller test track layout).  When I have the loco on the track and try to power up, the red short light on the Z-4000 comes on for the other handle from the one for the track where the loco is sitting.  Sometimes it is possible to get the handle for the tract when the loco is to come up to 15-17 volts and then I can run the loco in Legacy mode with cab2 seemingly working normally in terms of loco responding to various commands.  I have reset the loco several times but the problem does not go away.

Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong?  BTW, all of my other Lionel and MTH engines are working fine on both tracks.

Thanks!

My Lionel Legacy C&O Allegheny #1604 is at Lionel today for shorting out my ZW-L three times.  It is an intermittent problem occurring on a curve usually.  It might be a pinched wire.  I have had pinched wires in several engines sent back to Lionel this year.  Allegheny, AC-12, M1a, two Sound station diners.  The GG1 was a broken wire. I guess that doesn't count.  Ask Lionel to send you a UPS call tag. My two Allegheny engines #1604 and 1601 have been at Lionel since January 23, 2017.

Yes, I have Lionel's legacy system.  It does look like there is a quality control problem with Alleghenies.   It would be interesting to find out how many other people have had problems with their Legacy Alleghenies.

I was another one. Two back to back warranty repairs after being on the layout no more than 10 minutes each time it came back out of the box.  Mine had a bad board the first time. (stuck in conventional, no Legacy control).  When it came back there was surging at slow speeds and a couple other minor issues.  Smoke switch was broken off 2 times after receiving new and from once warranty repair after being stated it was replaced.  No biggie for me I use remote for that function. One of the thin, small side roads was twisted too.  That's all I can recall without looking through the letters I wrote up for Lionel's repair department.

Been running it a bit since it came back into my possession for the third time lol.  Everything has been fine and no issues finally.
