This is the Lionel Legacy C&O Berkshire #2696 from the Empire Builder set. For some reason it seems to get overlooked compared to the earlier TMCC 2699 or later Legacy 2687. However neither of those have the stellar Railsounds 2696 has. It being an early legacy model means it has RS 5.5, road specific crew talk, and one of the best and yet never used again whistles from Lionel. With that said it lacks the modern lighting and smoke expected from a legacy model. So I decided to give it the legacy treatment. Tender didn't get touched. Everything was done on the engine side. Its been fully converted to RCMC electronics, LEDs, a Bruk Bannister 3D printed dual smoke unit/universal funnel, and all the works. Built a small custom heat sink out of brass for the RCMC to sit on, brass bracket for the smoke unit, brass elbow for the whistle steam, custom built wiring harness with hand crimped connectors, and finished it off with wire routing in the most clean and factory fresh way I think I have ever done on a conversion. It is easy to have wiring turn into spaghetti . All said and done this is IMO the nicest Lionel Legacy Berkshire out there now. Good paint, sounds, smoke, control, and road name .
