I am in the process of installing a Lionel Coal Tipple ( 6-32910 ) at grade level. I am having arcing issues as cars enter and exit the tipple. (the outer rails).

I am using RealTrax rails for the layout. Since the track cannot mate directly to the tipple track there is a slight gap. Because the tipple rotates, a gap will naturally exist. I am keeping the distance between layout track and tipple track as close as possible.

I am powering the tipple via track power. I am experiencing arcing as car enter and exit the tipple. This arcing then causes me to reset my 180 watt transformer brick. Is there a way to eliminate this? I temporarily solve the problem by insulating 5 " on either side of the tipple with a non  powered section. However, this will make it difficult to operate an engine through/ close to the tipple.

Is the neutral (U) of the track transformer tied to the neutral of the accessory transformer?  If not, then that is your problem.  Tying the neutrals together will put the transformers “in-phase” with one another and prevent arcing when cars cross from one transformer powered track to another.

Sorry about that, I must not have read your description closely enough.

From the Lionel manual the transformer A (track center rail) must go to Tipple Accessory inner terminal (see diagram).  That would be the red terminal on your RealTrax lockon.

The transformer U (outer rail) must go the Tipple outer terminal.  Black if you are powering with RealTrax lockon.  Please make sure wires aren't turned around.

I thought before I installed the tipple I had the right wiring configuration....I purposely used a color coded wiring scheme...yellow power.... white (U) return. I would have sworn I saw that diagram and made the right connections. After removing an access door, I saw that the U terminal was incorrect...I switched the power leads to match the diagram ....and behold the issues has gone away.

Magic.....

Time to download the manual🤣...and double check my work.

Thanks for the help.
