As an owner of the beautiful Conrail (Reading) T1...have there been any hints that a Conrail Heavyweight consist might follow as was supposedly planned along with the locomotive back in the late 70s?

Don't hold your breath. 
Seems a logical offering since the locomotive sold out. The tooling exists.
Since it's a fantasy locomotive, just run fantasy cars.
If they did it would be one beautiful train. The engine is beautiful. Since everything is now BTO they should try it. Not enough preorders then it’s a no go. Nothing lost.
Yeah it would be a nice set. The engine proved popular so its not a longshot at all. Also the design has been documented in the planning stages by Conrail...so more of a never released vs fantasy.
I also would welcome more Conrail patch jobs. The below photo would be a nice unit and the tooling is there. These also sell well for Lionel in recent catalogs.
