Please excuse my ignorance but I'm relatively new to the hobby. I already own the MTH Lionel Corporation No. 2814 Box Car 11-70156. I'm beautifully made and I'm trilled with the quality. When it was delivered, I was surprised by its size. It was larger than I expected. It's certainly larger than any of my 1938-vintage Lionel tinplate.

Is this a reproduction of an item from an era when O scale cars were closer in size to standard gauge?

   Your originals are probably 2600 series, these are 2800 series Tin Plate they are different sizes.   I just picked up an early original Lionel 817 Caboose similar to the Lionel MartyE has pictured in his post.  I may purchase the new Lionel 2800 Caboose also, now that I see it.

Still looking for a set of original Trucks with Auto-Couplers for her. Love the Lionel colors on these Lionel originals.

My originals are 600 series as well as 1600 series.  So these 2800 series are noticeably bigger.  Are these 2800 series still approximate 'toy scale' or more accurate to 1:48?  Your original 817 is very nice.

   I do not think any of the Tin Plate was really built to scale, remember back then these were just little boys toys, and they came in different sizes even with different types of coupler.

Nice collection Dave.  Height differences stand out when blending into the one consist.  Still, I really love the orange and blue.

This announcement though means my 263 is getting ever closer to my dealer shelves.

The mth booth at the houston worlds greatest hobby show claimed he thought the goetz 2814 and other cars from that catalog were coming in, he said next week.  Would be great if that is true.

I just got my 2017 tinplate 0 club car yesterday,so there might be a ray of hope for the 2016 map reefer from the tca convention,,,,the only time a tinplate o car was offered

This is good news.  That means the 2016 TCA Houston ATSF "Route of the Texas Chief" map reefer Convention Car will be shipping!

Are there pictures of that map car anywhere?
