Has anyone ever tried enlarging the d-27 layout for running std gauge

A Standard Gauge version of a D27 "disappearing train" layout could be done maybe as small as 64" x 104". Longer would be better. This is a one-trick layout, although the fans say it's a really good trick if you have a train long enough to loop over itself. The question is whether you can make it run reliably when the hidden grades are rather extreme and abrupt.
I've done this plan with only 6" railhead-to-railhead clearance, which might be adequate for smaller standard gauge trains. If you need more clearance, of course the grades will be steeper unless you also make the plan larger. Curves are 42" and 57" diameter (could be all 42").

The D27 was designed in part to demonstrate the advantages of magnetraction. You would have to have a fairly long train to simulate the disappearing. I don't think this would work well for standard gauge.
