Hi everyone, we have a number of Lionel Southern Pacific Daylight engines and cars and the 18071 has a scratch on the cow catcher GASP! Does anyone know what the best orange and silver match is for this train? I can airbrush it and use a paint pen for the repair but I want to get the colors right. Thank you Cole & Ed Diamond

Just about all the model train paint manufacturers have done a Daylight Orange. Tru Color is currently available and Floquil has done it but hard to find now. I am pretty sure I saw some at English's in Montoursville, PA last month. You may still have to mix some lighter or darker orange to get an exact match.  As for the silver, I would think that is less critical. Just mask off the orange and spray the whole pilot. Tamiya makes a few silvers in spray cans that should come close enough.

Lionel's Daylight scheme colors have been pretty variable over the years, often too saturated with red. I've found Tru-Color paints to be pretty close to prototypical and generally easy to apply whether you are using an airbrush or hand brushing.

Their Daylight Orange digital color chip can be accessed via this page- it's color chip 4: http://trucolorpaint.com/color-charts/

When applied I find that the Tru-Color paints I have used have more color depth than the online color charts show.
