Update: Confirmation by Lionel; Lionel Electronic Board Purchase Policy

`I've been advised to call them. "Talk To Us" seems not to work consistantly.

Last time I checked, you have to do an exchange for an RCMC, don't know if that's still the policy.  In any case, since they're the only ones that have the code to program them, an RCMC is fairly useless for the most part without it being programmed for the application.

It was changed about 6 months ago. You don't need to send in an exchange. You do have call and place the order. You can't do it online.

Keep in mind the RCMCs are engine specific so you need the correct part number.

If service doesn't have a specific one in stock they will program one but that may not happen right away.

Good to know Pete, I heard a rumor about that, but never saw anything official.

I think it was Dave Olsen who posted this here. I have since picked up items that previously required an exchange but now don't.

Thank you Norton, now I know I can order the board without worrying about shipping my rcmc.

Lionel did get back to me via "talk to us." This is what they said;

"As the engine is out of warranty, you may purchase the board directly."

Nothing mentioned about a trade in, which was my specific question. Now I just have to wait till Nov. 2 and hope I get through to someone to take my order. Is Friday the only day they will be taking phone orders during the parts sale?

Yes.  Friday is the only "phone in" day.  The sale however is on all weekend.

Yes.  Friday is the only "phone in" day.  The sale however is on all weekend.
