Lionel engine question

I have a number of traditional Lionel engines (mostly Alcos), and whenever

I turn on power to the track the default mode for all the engines is reverse

rather than forward. Is there something I can do (polarity?) so that the

first direction is forward? Thanks for help.

If these are older units with mechanical E-Units, that's probably to be expected. If you were running them forward and then stopped, the next E-Unit step will be reverse.

If they're electronic E-Units and they start in reverse, swap the motor leads and they'll start in forward.
