Quite a few Legacy locomotives before that date also have the sensor. For example, my DD35A from 2011 has the sensor, as do my F3s and RS11, all of which are pre-August '12.

The adapter track while not the best solution, works.  I experimented with my Atlas O and some fast track to see how I would do this when the sensor track arrives.  It worked pretty good.  Would have been better have I had cork roadbed under my Atlas. 

 

Of course this doesn't really work great if you need to get it where there is extensive roadbed and ground scenery.

 

Bottom line is it can be added.  It just depends on how much work you want to do at installing and blending it in with existing track types.

The SensorTrack comes with a selection of pre-programmed "action sequences" that will trigger various sounds when a compatible locomotives crosses over that SensorTrack. (see list of compatible engines above). The only "other component" you'll need is a 6-81499 LCS Power Supply and DB9 cable.  One of these PER LAYOUT is required for every LCS installation.
