Fixing to begin construction of 15x38’ layout. Building a building behind my house for layout. Have 8x16’ layout up stairs in my house using Fastrack. I just love  the Command Control 0-72 switches. Have talked to three different professional layout builders and all three say don’t use Fastrack. They say it is too expensive, not prototypical and problems with connectivity. They all say Gargraves track and Ross Switches.

I can do the Gargraves track and Ross switches but wiring all those switches and being limited to a stationary control panel just diesn’t appeal to me.

I have never seen a big layout done with Fastrack. Are there some out there? What do you guys say? I don’t mind ballasting the sides of the Fastrack.

Just want to do this right the first time and not be sorry with the track system. I am spending a lot of money on this with the building and all so a little more for the right track system will be justified.

Your opinions will be greatly appreciated!

If you are happy with FasTrack, use FasTrack. There are plenty of tips on this forum about how to ensure conductivity isn’t a problem (which really isn’t a problem if you are using new track that hasn’t been disassembled), if you want to go that route. And I think FasTrack looks more prototypical than Ross or Gargraves if you consider the tie size and spacing.

That said, GarGraves and Ross have excellent track. If you are willing to put the work into bending track, you would have a fine layout. You can also opt for sectional track.

Cost is a non factor. The good stuff from Ross is expensive, but worth it.
