Can anyone give me any more info on these? They seem like a good way to build a layout.

They are a joint Lionel/LCCA project, so the LCCA might have more info
I've seen them at York and they look sharp, however have never seen them elsewhere. They seem well laid out but the kits themselves are a bit pricey, though you can get the specs for free and build them yourself
About the same time that LCCA came out with their plans, I had just started designing a modular layout for our club. I built all of the modules and transport them to various locations, and our club members at Boothe Memorial Railway Society help with setup, operating and packing it up.
The design of mine, coincidentally has the same from-the-edge track spacing as the LCCA modules but I built them for way less money. O36 inside loop, O42 outside loop.
Instead of coffin latches to join modules, I use 1/4"-20 bolts. The whole set of modules makes a 10' x 10' layout, a 5' x 15' layout, or a 5' x 25' one-sided layout.
One big difference is that nothing except the track is permanently mounted on my modules. We populate the layout with buildings, cars, people, etc. once the pieces are connected and in place.
It runs three trains, or two trains and two bump and go trolleys, at a time. I recommend the skirting - it really adds a lot to the overall look! (IMHO)
It is setup for conventional or DCS, and a separate control case houses all the electronics.
I would suggest looking into a D_I_Y design. My modules are either 30" x 30" or 30" x 60" and easily fit in my small SUV, along with the trains, and all scenery, etc.
