I have this engine but cannot get it to move. Do I need special Trainmaster Command equipment?

Yes, it will run without the TMCC equipment
Is there a switch on the engine to run conventional or TMCC?
There is a run/ Program switch to program the engine in command mode.... ex .. change ID number etc.
However in conventional mode the switch should be in the run position to cycle direction, If it's in program mode it becomes a lock-out switch.. we don't want that .

While it's difficult to diagnose your problem without more information, it should be pointed out that this locomotive is known for having the MagneTraction truck magnets slip out of place and rub against the backside of the wheels, thereby inhibiting movement.
Do a search of the forum, and I'm pretty sure it's been covered what needs to be done to fix this condition.
TRW
I'll second PAPERTRW's suggestion; if the Run/ Program switch is set to "Run" and it's getting power but not moving, it may very well be the magnet issue. I have this loco and the first time I operated it new out of the box (in Conventional), it ran fine for a few minutes then began to slow down, eventually stopping completely with one set of wheels spinning and the other set bound up. The magnets in that particular power truck were the culprit; I disassembled the truck, re-centered the magnets and epoxied them in place. Once that was done, it ran very well.
