If you do a search on this forum this topic has been discussed. Yearly with a thread done just last month. I believe the experts overwhelmingly choose Red and Tacky grease. It's chosen due to the high heat resilience and its chemical composition keeps the grease on the applied area and doesn't drip or run as other grease types do.
You can purchase a tube in any automotive parts store. You can purchase refillable syringes on DA bay or Amazon to apply the grease. One tube will last you a lifetime.
You can use the lube sold by any other model train company such as MTH or any other brand sold in hobby shops for use on the gear teeth of the locomotive wheels. My local hobby sells several different brands. Just read the package that the lube comes in.
