A while back I thought I read a how-to on the drive belt replacement for the ice station. Being that the belt is unavailable from Lionel, Someone found an alternative for the belt. I've tried a forum search with no luck. I 've been to the hardware store, found a o-ring that work for a very short time until it broke. I need to get this up and running as I can. It's my 3yr.old grandson's favorite toy next to the choo choo . Any help on this would be appreciated.

What is the ice station number?
Balto: I don't know the # I bought it used w/out a box.
TrainLarry: Thanks for the info, I'll look into it.
I thought the alternative belt was from some company and it's made out of a longer lasting material ?

Fuzzie-
It looks like the drive belt is some kind of small cogged belt. Maybe a local company that specializes in power transmission products (belts/chains, etc.) could check for you to see if a more durable belt is available.

Wondering if anyone found a replacement for this belt? Mine broke too.
It's 1/8" in width and 4" in circumference.

Any chance a traction tire would work? Properly sized of course.

Yes, that is what I used and its been going for 3 years.
Any particular size of traction tire? I can't find measurements for Lionel tires, and I couldn't find an MTH tire that has similar dimensions.
I found a 1/8 x 4.0 inch flat belt here and will let you know if it works.
Jeff Kane for parts. He has both type of belts that were used on these motor gear boxes. There is a narrow round belt for some and a traction tire type for others.. I assume the traction tire type belt will work.

It came off of an MTH 4-6-0 starter set locomotive.
MTH traction tire DE-0000031 is an exact same size as the icing station belt.
