HI I just a LIONEL LAUNCH SOUND CAR 6-26877 army..

I am using cab-1 with tmcc  it will work with using the tmcc signal but when set on the bottom to rail... it does not make any diesel sound nor whistle nor be when moving..

wondering if its my old system  or a problem with this unit?

aslo the sound is not very loud thier but other sound boxcars I have are louder dont see how lonel make any way for the sound to come out of the plastic barrel thy put on top..(?)

Is it because..? I have tmcc wired on my layout and confusing the  unit I have? and not working in conventional?

Very possible.  If you can unplug the command base, make sure any engines that are using TMCC are powered off and try again.  The TMCC signal is very robust and even if the loops are not physically connected, the signal could be interfering with conventional control.

Again make sure any engines using TMCC portion of the layout are powered off before unplugging the base.

Thanks guys! I check tonight after work But as mentioned it works in TMCC .. I have a postwar navy set and wanted to add this behind it . I'm swapping shells on a 3665 and it looks good! .  The only way to make sounds  is by hitting the cab-1 aux and then all works fine .

It just at the time I tested it would not work if I used my cab-1  (when in conventional mode  hit train  id just for track  and then no sounds nor whistle or bell functions. when I press them .daniel

The way I read it is that there is a TMCC loop and a conventional loop.  When on the TMCC loop it works with the Cab1, when on the conventional loop it doesn't work conventionally.  I surmised the TMCC signal is making the "leap" and keeping it quiet in TMCC mode still.  That command base needs to get out of the picture to be sure.

UPdate!   I unplugged my tmcc .  AND ....... the conventional works fantastic  I still have Lionel first generation  TPC  and it works with my  cab-1  ..

Actually! it the horn (siren) works better than  using tmcc functions (not sure why yet) .

Question?  do the tmcc units ever fail where they work but  go bad giving signal slowly or delay ? or what I experience on some tmcc units  poor reception???

thanks again ...daniel

Yes, the TMCC base can go out of tune and cause a lot of those issues.  There is actually a fairly simple tuning procedure to try.

This is from the Late Dale Manquen's excellent website, one of the many pearls there.  I recommend you first mark the starting position of the coil.  Also, heed the check other locomotives point, do that first.

Re-tuning L8 is a bit risky, but sometimes this is necessary. Using the least sensitive locomotive as a reference, press the horn/whistle button on the CAB-1. Use a plastic screwdriver to adjust L8 back and forth until you determine the extremes of the adjustment range that will activate the horn/whistle. Now adjust L8 to the middle of this adjustment range. Check all you other locomotives. (You could have just one bad locomotive and a good Base!)

I think  L8 would be on the board  for the TMCC correct if you show a picture I know I 'll try it but for others in the future that might read this it might be so helpful.

But should I try my "other " TMCC  with the ground and power  wall wart to it..unit to see if that helps first?

Also  any reports of power supply going to them   failing?

thanks ..daniel
