No powered section yet.  They want to see how sales go first and then expand so Im assuming its in the works.  You can still use your old power track for the time being.

Another option would be to attach wires to the mounting pins on the underside of the track like our previous wired hook up sections (before the wall packs and barrel jacks)

I am ordering an Area 51 set to obtain the basic starter circle of green lighted track. And since it will be possible to swap out the LED lights (as per Dave and Ryan), will probably get a 4 pack of Xmas straight and do a bit of experimenting.

If and when Lionel expands this line, I would like to expand to cover a 4X8.

enjoy your trains...

The video (at 1:17 through 1:19) clearly shows that Lionel has made power sections of this LED track, possibly only enough for the number of sets they plan to produce.

My thoughts EXACTLY GregM...You can clearly see the upper straight section is a Fastrack Powered section.

What gives Lionel?

Another Lionel conspiracy.

I have 22 power drops and 9 sidings. Not one of them uses a power section of track.

Via my young son I've just gotten back into the hobby after literally 30 years or so out of it and only have Lionchief so far.

The problem for me with this solution is I would now be required to get a separate transformer to run the trains on the lighted track and I've got to say the hobby is WAY MORE expensive then when I last dabbled in it and I'm trying NOT to invest too much until I know he and I are fully invested (re-invested in my case) back into the world of trains.

My post was a response to this statement from KenjrTW ;

"No powered section yet.  They want to see how sales go first and then expand so Im assuming its in the works. "

that can be interpreted to imply that Lionel hasn't produced powered sections of the lighted FastTrack yet.  The purpose of my post was just to state that the video shows Lionel HAS produced power sections for this lighted track, no hint of a Lionel conspiracy was intended.

Where is pre-order link for the powered section of track?   Is one of the 10" straights a powered section?  No mention in the link for the 10" straight track 4 pack that one is a powered section.

1) This is a COOL idea!     2) Since two different train sets in the 2020 catalog come with a complete oval of LED track, Lionel HAS have in the plans an LED-based power connection straight track.  My question is: how do you connect conventional power to this track?  It looks like the underside is full of electronics & has a flat bottom.  I wonder if the blackish-looking hole is in the top of each section is a sensor.

There will probably be several solutions but one is to obtain the plug/pigtail that Lionel sells for FasTrak.  Plug one end into the port on the power track piece and the other ends can be attached to wires running to a transformer. Will need to connect by soldering, wire nuts, etc.

Edit: Part number 6-82038

The issue is no one had been able to find if Lionel will offer a lighted track power piece.  As a few of us have noted you can clearly see one in the demo video but thus far none have been offered for sale.

Got it.

For the Green LED track that comes with the Area 51 Set it does show a lighted track power piece included with the set. But whether or not that's true for this multi-colored LED track agree that we need more information.
