I just unpacked my first Lionel Legacy diesel. The Amtrak Dash-9, 6-28343. I just looked in the owner's manual to see how to access the switches, program/run, smoke on/off, etc. The manual appears to show you remove the roof panel just to the rear of the smoke fluid fill opening. I must be missing something because I cannot see how I remove the section of roof to access all those switches.

If you have this diesel I will appreciate any tips about where and how to access the switches.

I have a Legacy Dash 9 - #6-39571 from the 2013 catalog and the 'roof panel - switch access' is identical to the one in trainlover9943's video above. I imagine yours will also be the same as both of these. Good luck with your new engine!

You do indeed pull this panel off.

Under it you'll see the battery holder and this switch setup and volume control.
