I currently run my trains with MTH DCS connected to a cab1 base. I have both MTH and Lionel TMCC locomotives and works very well. I do not have any legacy engines and not planning anytime soon. Been thinking of buying a lionel 990 system as well. Based on my setup, are there any advantages? Will my TMCC engines run any better? Not sure if it is worth the money or just wait until I acquire a legacy engine. Appreciate any thoughts you may have. Thanks.

I'd wait till you acquire a Legacy locomotive before spending money on a Legacy system. Your TMCC locomotives won't get much of a benefit from it.

Actually, it's pretty well known that TMCC engines operate noticeably better with the Legacy system. You might consider the Cab 1L system - less expensive than the 990, but probably all you need if you have no Legacy engines at present. In fact, lots of folks with Legacy engines use the Cab 1L system, because the controller is somewhat simpler, but gives them all they need.

Is that with the Cab-1L also or just the Cab-2?

I took the OP's post to mean he was running both DCS and TMCC locomotives from the DCS remote. He said "I currently run my trains with MTH DCS connected to a cab1 base." In that case he won't see any improvement in running his TMCC locomotives with a Legacy base connected to the TIU, as he will get the same functionality. If the OP wants to run his TMCC locomotives with the Legacy base and controller then, yes, he would see some improvement in performance. It really boils down to how the OP wants to run his TMCC locomotives, with the DCS remote or with the Legacy remote.
One thing is that you probably won't buy a Legacy engine if you don't have the system to run it, or you'll have to buy both at once.
If you go ahead and buy the controls, you'll probably have a Legacy engine sooner. 2 cents, keep the change.
