I am repairing a boom on a legacy crane … does anyone know how the “springs” go at the base? I have to put the last little piece in and am guessing the springs should be sitting on top of it…but i’m not sure…can anyone verify ? Also there is a tiny spring not sure where it goes either… i have pictures of the base and tiny spring that i am inquiring about…

thanks for any info…

The small spring is attached to limit switch arm right above the big hook within the boom frame.  I included a photo for you.

The larger (main boom) springs rest against a support brace near the bottom of the boom frame.  In your photos this support is broken.  I have included a photo of what it should look like.

The boom itself is not available from Lionel that I could tell, but you could purchase the entire boom and motor frame assembly.  Gets a bit $$ though.  Good luck with your repair.

The "lever like thing" is a limit switch which stop the motor when the boom is too high or too low.  There are several limit switches on this car.  I included a close-up.  You will need to add something for the spring to push against as the original brace is missing from your boom repair.

I think you may be missing some additional bracing / detail on the boom itself.  It it was me, I'd replace the entire boom.

But as noted earlier, that comes with a cost.

Have fun.
